The National Engineers Week 2002 Asian American Engineer of the Year Award Banquet receives strong corporate, community, academia and government support.

RICHARDSON, Texas (Jan. 10, 2002) – The Chinese Institute of Engineers/USA (CIE/USA) is privileged to co-sponsor the National Engineers Week 2002. It is currently working with other national level engineering societies, including IEEE/USA, IIE/USA, National Society of Professional Engineers, National Society of Civil Engineers, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, National Society of Black Engineers, and Society of Women Engineers in the National E-Week Steering Committee to plan and develop numerous exciting programs throughout the nation.

A highlight of the E-Week 2002 celebration is the Asian American Engineer of the Year Award Banquet hosted by CIE/USA. This banquet will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2002 from 6:00 pm to 9:30 pm at the Renaissance Dallas North Hotel in Dallas.

The keynote speaker of this national level Award Gala is Mr. Bob Drewes, President & CEO of Raytheon Aircraft Integration Systems. Drewes joined Raytheon Company in November 1997, after completing 33 years in the U.S. Air Force with the rank of Major General. His last assignment was Commander of Defense Contract Management Command with 16,000 employees stationed worldwide. Additionally, Drewes has more than eight years of experience working on various assignments in the Pentagon. He was also a military assistant in the Executive Office of the President of the United States during the Reagan administration.

The Labor Secretary, the Honorable Elaine L. Chao, has sent her sincere blessing for this E-Week Award event. Her special assistant will attend the Banquet and deliver the Secretary’s congratulatory message.

All CIE/USA Area Chapters in the US including D/FW Chapter, New Mexico Chapter, Greater New York Chapter, OCEESA Chapter, San Francisco Chapter, Seattle Chapter will also participate in this event. In addition to the Award Banquet, CIE/USA is working closely with IEEE-USA in promoting the “ZOOM into Engineering”, a joint program of National Engineers Week. Zoom into Engineering program was designed to promote an interest in Math and Science for young adults. CIE/USA is also sponsoring the “National Engineers Week 2002 Future City Competition” program. This program is a National Engineers Week program for seventh and eighth-grade students to foster interest in math, science and engineering through hands-on, real world applications. CIE/USA will provide a special “CIE/USA Award” for one of the winner teams of the Future City Competition National Finals to be held on February 20, 2002 at Hyatt Regency – Capitol Hill Hotel in Washington D.C.
