Student Center on Friday, April 2, 2004 at 12 pm.
Southern Methodist University is proud to hold the sixth annual
Asian-American Leadership and Educational Conference (AALEC) April
2-3,2004. AALEC's goal is to provide an opportunity for our future
generations to gain knowledge and insight on how to become successful
in an increasingly competitive world.
With the growth of Asian populations, a small group of students
and educators had a dream to educate and reach out to the youth.
The lives of Asian American youth are affected by many different
issues and concerns. There is a clear need for role models who understand
the different journeys that these youth have traveled and who can
resolve the nebulous issues that
they face.
Through AALEC, the SMU student leaders wish to successfully bridge
the communication-gap and the culture-gap which continuously challenge
the Asian-American community. The conference offers a medley of
speakers and workshops
that address a comprehensive range of Asian-American topics from
domestic cultural conflicts to leadership and career planning.
The theme this year is: "Looking within: Honoring the Past,
Capturing the Present, and Exploring the Future." A few speakers
are needed to lead the workshops about the three themes. Topics
could include college life, career planning, etc. If you know anyone
who is interested in participating in the conference or if you are
interested in assisting, please contact Natasha
Cong. You can visit AALEC at http://people.smu.edu/aalec.
