APEX College Mentor Program: Sponsored

Overview
The APEX College Mentor Program
is a chance for our organization to give back to the community while
also committing to help develop the Asian American leaders of tomorrow.
This year, from February to August, APEX Dallas will host the pilot
program of the College Mentor Program. 15 mentors will be paired up
with 15 students from the Southern
Methodist University. Our goal for the first year is to develop
a strong foundation of mentors, sponsors, and resources to build upon
for the following years.
Mentors will be required to spend at least 4 hours per month communicating
with their mentees through email, phone, or face-to-face. Additionally,
mentors will be encouraged to bring their mentees to their workplace.
A feedback survey will be distributed at the end of the Spring Program
to both mentors and mentees to help improve the program.
Our mentors have the following backgrounds:
· At least one year of professional work experience.
· Comes from one of a diverse range of fields (medicine, law, engineering,
marketing, finance, IT, retail, accounting)
· APEX Membership for 2005
· Enthusiasm to pass on knowledge and wisdom about their careers and
job industry.
If you have any questions about the program, please contact Justin
Hung at justin@apexdallas.org
or Anthony Luu at anthony@apexdallas.org.
Objectives
To help foster the career development of undergraduate
students in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area by providing a program for which
young professionals can mentor students with similar backgrounds and
interests in building a professional network, developing a professional
skills set, as well as achieving their overall career goals.
APEX Dallas Mentors will achieve its mission by
· Providing advice on how to succeed in the corporate world
· Passing on experience and knowledge about specific industries
· Advising students on job searches and networking tips
· Encouraging mentees to follow their career dreams
· Building lasting relationships with their mentees
