Events and Development Director

The Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) is a national non-profit and nonpartisan civil rights advocacy and educational organization founded in 1973. the position:
The Events and Development Director is responsible for planning OCA's major events and developing and coordinating the development work for the organization. In this role, the Events and Development Director plays a critical role in building and maintaining relationships with OCA's corporate sponsors and designing new ones with private foundations. The Events and Development Director would require a special combination of skills in organization and planning, interpersonal skills, systems management, research, writing and publishing.

duties:
Planning and managing all OCA National special events including the annual convention and national Corporate Achievement Award banquet. Coordinating such events with the local host chapters.
Organizing national board meeting and BAC meetings, as well as providing staff liaison and support throughout the year.
Developing and implementing a comprehensive plan to raise funds from new corporate sponsors, private foundations, and individuals in support of immediate high growth (from a budget of under $1 million).
Conducting research and identifying new funding prospects.
Drafting corporate and foundation grant proposals. Track funding deadlines.
Cultivating individual donors through annual appeal, planned giving and direct mail.
Handling the donation process, including tracking donors and funds and generating acknowledgment letters.
Creating information systems to produce regular status reports on fundraising received and projections for remainder of fiscal year.
Maintaining databases and filing systems.
Creating solicitation materials and content for OCA's publications and website.
Provide fundraising support for National Board
Assist with the capital campaign
Other duties as required.

qualifications:
B.A. degree or commensurate work experience
Minimum 2 years in development experience and proven track record in raising funds
Need to work independently and within a team structure
Excellent interpersonal skills, working with ease with diverse groups of people
Capacity to work in a fast paced and flexible nonprofit environment.
High level of personal energy
Ability to communicate in written and oral form about OCA's mission
A strong commitment to the Chinese American and Asian Pacific American community
Strong organizational, planning and administrative skills, as well as ability to manage time efficiently in order to meet tight deadlines.
Substantive knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to Asian Pacific American issues preferred
Knowledge in Power Point, Quark, Pagemaker, Excel, Access and other similar software. Technology tools in fundraising a plus.

the position:
The Program and Event Assistant is responsible for providing support to OCA's programs and to assist with organizing OCA's major events. In this role, the Program and Event Assistant plays an important support role to ensure that OCA runs its programs and events smoothly, meets deadlines, is responsive to board, chapter and public inquiries and supports the operations of the OCA National Office. The Program and Event Assistant requires a special combination of skills in organizing, multi-tasking, planning events and oral and written communications.

duties:
Planning and managing all OCA National special events including the annual convention, national Corporate Achievement Award banquet and the OCA-JACL conference. Coordinating such events with the local host chapters.
Providing the Executive Director with staff support with the business of the National Board and the Business Advisory Council, which meets quarterly. Organizing national board meeting and BAC meetings. Arranging meeting logistics, including negotiating meeting space, securing conference rooms, arranging travel, confirming attendance, preparing name badges, table tents and attendance lists, and coordinating catering services.
Assisting Executive Director with placing calls, drafting general correspondence, scheduling meetings and taking meeting minutes.
Fielding queries from the National Board, local chapters and the public. Includes support for communications including press releases and kits, e-mail, faxes, requests for information and OCA publications, and mailings.
Providing assistance to OCA's legislative advocacy and educational programs.
Assisting with development work. Tracking development-related deadlines and responding to funder inquiries.
Supporting office systems such as databases and filing systems. Providing phone coverage.
Other duties as required.
